Shema is detained at the RIB Kicukiro Station in the capital city Kigali, RIB spokesperson Thierry Murangira told local media on Tuesday.

While there was yet any immediate comment from FERWAFA, Murangira said they are also investigating other related offenses linked to Shema, who was elected president in August 2025.

FERWAFA was established in 1972 and became affiliated with both the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) in 1978.
