177 asylum seekers from Libya arrive in Rwanda
Rwanda in partnership with the UN refugee agency has received 177 asylum seekers from Libya originating from different countries.
The latest asylum seekers from Sudan, Eritrea, Somali, Ethiopia and South Sudan arrived in the country on Wednesday, according to the Ministry of Emergency Management.
In a post on X, the ministry said the group mainly composed of nationals from Sudan and Eritrea will be accommodated in Gashora Transit Center, in Bugesra District, where other evacuees who arrived before are hosted.
Since September 2019, Rwanda has received over 3,000 refugees and asylum seekers from Libya.
Some 2,681 of them have been successfully resettled in third countries.
At least 297 were resettled in Sweden, 927 in Canada, 229 in Norway, while 332 were resettled in France. Up to 271 were resettled in Finland, 94 in Netherlands,72 in Belgium, 325 in US and 132 in Germany.
The ministry added that Rwanda remains committed to offering refuge to people in need.
