Government slashes fuel prices
The Rwanda Utilities Regulatory Authority (RURA), the national regulator announced new fuel prices for the next two months effective Monday evening.
A litre of gasoline now costs Rwf1,528, down from 1,544, while a litre of diesel costs Rwf1,518, down from Rwf1,562.
The reduction in fuel prices were attributed to adjustments in the global oil prices.
“Fuel pump prices are revised downwards based on the adjustments at the international market of petroleum products,” RURA said in a statement.
In February, prices for petrol and diesel had slightly dropped following the adjustments in the global oil market.
In May 2021, the government announced subsidies on fuel costs to stabilize the cost of logistics and goods after global oil prices began skyrocketing following reduced demand as a result of the COVID related restrictions.
