Rwanda’s inflation up 9.2% year on year in February, higher than last year

Prices of goods and services in Rwanda were 9.2% higher in February compared to February 2025, according to the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) by the National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR).

The CPI report showed that food and non-alcoholic beverages increased by 4.6% on annual basis, while alcoholic beverages tobacco and narcotics rose by 18.3% on annual basis.

According to the data, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 12.3% on annual basis, while health rose by 71.1% on annual basis.

The report showed that prices of transport, restaurants and hotels all increased on annual and monthly basis by varying percentages.

Restaurants and hotels’ increased by fast pace at 19.9% on annual basis, while local products increased by 9.3%.

The February report shows that prices of imported products climbed by 9.1% on annual basis while the prices of the fresh products increased by 5%.

The report also indicates that prices of the energy increased by 20% on annual change while prices of the general Index excluding fresh products and energy increased by 9.6%.

The annual average inflation rate between February 2026 and February 2025 was 7.4%, according to NISR.

The CPI is a measure of the average change over time of goods and services purchased by households.
