Kagame sends condolences after death of Namibia's President Geingob
Rwandan President Paul Kagame Monday extended condolences to the people of Namibia and former first lady following the passing of Namibia’s President Hage Geingob.
“My deepest condolences to my sister Monica Geingos, the entire family and the people of Namibia for the passing of my brother and friend President Hage Geingob," Kagame said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
Geingob died aged 82 on Sunday, at Lady Pohamba Hospital in the country’s capital, Windhoek, where he was receiving cancer treatment.
Kagame said the fallen leader will be remembered for his commitment to Pan-Africanism.
“His leadership through Namibia’s liberation struggle, his tireless work in service of his people and his commitment to a united Africa will all be remembered for generations to come,” he said.
Geingob had served as Namibia's third president since March 21, 2015, and was re-elected for another five-year term in 2019.
Former vice president of Namibia Nangolo Mbumba was later Sunday sworn in as the next president.
